Katherine Marton is such a skilled teacher. She patiently explains concepts in math and is always open to a debate or to a correction. Her method of explaining math is not standard, since instead of only presenting the concept from the book, she explains it in her own terms. Instead of strictly following the common teacher-student method of tutoring, she gives the student freedom to explain his/her problem with what was taught or anything else this student has a comment on. Kat Math has helped me excel in math. Katherine teaches in such a way that an A is guaranteed. Her techniques, which have been developed over many years of teaching math at SBCC are extraordinary and her tutoring is highly recommended. Ms. Marton is the best math professor I have ever had. I was fortunate she was my professor for Math 107 at Santa Barbara City College because she was always so dedicated to her teaching and making sure all the students had an opportunity to succeed. She was very patient and knew exactly when a student was following along or needed extra help. I ended up with an 'A' in the class and gained new confidence that I could actually understand math. In fact, when I later tried taking more advanced math classes, I always remembered back to how Ms. Marton would teach us. When I still had issues with a new concept, I would go to Ms. Marton for tutoring and each time she would instantly help me understand the new concept. I want to offer my enthusiastic endorsement of Katherine Marton as an organized, competent, motivating Algebra teacher for your student! Katherine taught this class to my daughter, as part of a small group of diverse homeschooled students, a number of years ago. My daughter, Jolie, was struggling to truly grasp the concepts in Pre-Algebra on her own using Saxon 8/7 at home the prior year, even with using a video-based instructor. She needed to learn with a real, live teacher in the context of a group asking questions and working through problems. Katherine quite capably marched the class (boys and girls, various ages, different experience levels) through the entire curriculum, helping each student keep up with the group, offering additional tutoring time (at a fair and reasonable rate) when my daughter needed extra help. Jolie went on to excel in both Algebra II and Geometry/Trigonometry at a local, private high school, earning honors credit and high grades, and just successfully completed a statistics class in college. I credit Katherine Marton for helping Jolie overcome her higher level math insecurities and reach concrete goals, which laid a strong foundation for her future math success.
